Review: Virtu Football Summer 2011 Collection

One of soccer’s newest brands is Virtu Football out of the fashion capital Manhattan, New York City.

Virtu’s latest collection features a premium range of soccer-inspired products for male and female soccer players and fans. In a rarity in this age of globalization, all of the Virtu’s gear is made in Manhattan, New York City.

Over the past week we’ve taking a look at some of Virtu Football’s gear. Here are our thoughts.

Men’s Blade Pullover

With the summer of 2011 in sight, the weather will be cooling down for many of us. The Blade is a good addition to your training wardrobe once that happens.

This high-end pullover is lightweight and absorbs sweat well. When your pickup match, training session or outdoor run gets a little chillier, it has an easily reachable zip up collar and built in thumb holes in the sleeves that let you use the sleeves to keep your hands warm.

Men’s Flash Tank Top

The ultralight and extremely cooling Flash tank has a prominent and stylish V neck that is inspired by Australia Rule Football jerseys. Throw in mesh siding and you’ve got an excellent training top for hot conditions and gymwork. If you’ve got a muscular physique, the Flash will show off what you’ve got.

Men’s All Black Shorts

If you like anything retro soccer related then the All Black shorts are for you. However, although they look like the classic footie shorts of the past, the All Blacks are totally modern and constructed of a lightweight nylon/spandex blend that absorbs sweat extremely well. We found them to be stylish enough to wear just about anywhere that sportswear is acceptable.

Women’s Flash Top

Not quite the best attire for the soccer field, we found the Flash top to be perfect for running and training in the gym. After all, the best women’s soccer players are all around athletes. Our tester reported that the Flash is one of the lightest training tops around and lauds it moisture absorption and dissipation properties.

Women’s Relax Top

This is another unique looking top from Virtu. Though seemingly a casual wear top, the Relax is as good as the Flash for training off the pitch from running the weightlifting to Pilates and core work.

Women’s Yoga Short

The United States Women’s Soccer Team practices yoga for flexibility and post-game stretching. Why shouldn’t the rest of us?

If you are a yoga practitioner, the Virtu Yoga Short is for you. Our tester found it to be very lightweight and comfortable when wearing it for a couple of sessions. It allowed us to perform all of our yoga moves without being hampered by our shorts. Indeed, she reported that it is one of the best pieces of yogawear that she has ever run into.

Fitted Pants

Virtu’s Fitted Pants are an all-purpose piece of training attire for the female soccer player. Lightweight, cooling, great-fitting and extremely stylish, the Fitted Pants are great for light ballwork, running indoor or outdoors, stretching and weight workouts. They’re fashionable enough for everyday use as well.
