Promotion-chasing German 2. Bundesliga club FC St. Pauli have unveiled their 2015/16 fourth kit from outfitter hummel.
Limited to 2,500 units, the latest shirt of the team nicknamed “Freibeuter der Liga” (Buccaneers of the League) will be worn for Sunday’s league meeting with Nürnberg at Hamburg’s Millerntor-Stadion.
Well-received by the club’s fans, the FC St. Pauli 2015/16 hummel fourth kit takes its design inspiration from the team’s 1974 home jersey. The year is of significance to the club since it marked the formation of the 2. Bundesliga (Germany’s second tier of football) with St. Pauli as a founding member of the league.
“It was our goal to desgin this jersey in a way that connects the fans of FC St. Pauli in a special way with their club,” said Hummel CEO Jens Binek. “The new special jersey honors the tradition of FC St. Pauli. I think that this is well done. The design is simple, no frills and flourishes, as the club itself and its fans.”
The material of the shirt remains true to the 1974 shirt in that it is made of 100% cotton instead of modern polyester. A ribbed v-neck collar and sleeve cuffs add to the retro vibe of the kit. The hummel branding, sponsor logo and FC St. Pauli crest are all in the team’s primary brown.
