The England Umbro 2010/12 away kit was launched in February during the build up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Inspired by that worn by England’s 1966 World Cup-winning team, the kit has become a huge hit among soccer fans worldwide and is currently one of our favourite 2010 jerseys. We were recently fortunate enough to obtain an England Umbro 2010/12 away kit. Here are our thoughts of it.
You never know what a soccer jersey really looks like until you see it in person. At times, one can be left disappointed or ambivalent from the appearance of a shirt that seemed to be a stellar piece of clothing in marketing material. However, there are times when justice cannot be properly done to a kit via even with the highest megapixel pictures. The England Umbro 2010/12 away kit is such an item.
While many football kits released over the past couple of years profess to be “retro”, very few have really captured the essence of the past. One that has is the England 10/12 away kit. From its 1960s inspired neckline to its white knit ribbed sleeve cuffs, the new England away jersey perfectly melds the classics styles with the modern.
What we found to be the best feature of the England 2010/12 Umbro away jersey is the look of the front portion of the shirt. To the untrained eye, it appears to be made of the cotton fabric similar to that used for the 1966 England kit. However, it is actually modern, lightweight polyester. As a result the wearer can enjoy a retro look but benefit from modern apparel technology.
Fit and Feel
Here are some pictures of the England Umbro 2010/12 away kit on the rightback of our local soccer team. As you can probably tell, the fit is somewhat slim as was the case with the England 1966 kit and and is the case with contemporary menswear. Our model found it to be extremely comfortable on a hot day and offering excellent ventilation.
Later on, we took the shirt on the field for use in a pickup match and thought it was amazing for absorbing sweat and drying quickly. Thus, the kit not only looks and feels good but is also constructed for in-game situations where jersey performance is important.
Whether you’re a footie kit collector, fan or just into the best of football fashion, the England Umbro 2010/12 away kit is a must have! Here at Football Fashion, we love its retro look and think its one of the best England kits of the last 10 years.
