Review: FIFA Collections Clothing

The governing body of world soccer, FIFA, is further diversifying its brand and celebrating the heritage of its World Cups with the global launch of a series of clothing lines comprising FIFA Collections.

FIFA launched it’s first ever fashion collection with an Autumn Winter 09 set in Asia. Now 2010 will see an inspired new collection hit the high streets worldwide. Spring Summer 10 has evolved dramatically from the launch range in terms of style, the incorporation of nostalgic football stories and an increased women’s range. The five FIFA collections each encapsulate a specific story from FIFA’s rich sporting history and presence; ‘1904’, ‘Editions’, ‘Code’, ‘Essentials’ and ‘Event’. Each collection has been designed with very individual identities ranging from the ‘1904’ collection with its strong heritage and preppy styling, to the classically branded ‘Essentials’ range and the vibrant, African inspired colours of the ‘Event’ collection.

The team at Football Fashion has had a chance to have a first hand look at several FIFA Collections Spring Summer 10 items including those pictured below. Here’s what we thought of them:

Designs
Retro is in right now and the designers of FIFA Collections have taken this fact into account. We loved the modern spins placed on World Cup 1950 Brazil in the both t-shirts and track jackets. These reflect athletic styles of the past but remain trendy by modern-day standards. The end results are “classics” that you get use of for a few years until countless washes lead to their retirement. They also cross generations and can be worn by soccer lover from age 10 to 100.

Quality
One of our favourite American sayings is “You get what you pay for.” With that said, FIFA Collections clothing isn’t the cheapest on the market. However, we thought that their quality was of a very good grade and well worth their price. The 100% cotton t-shirts are thin enough to be comfortable in the summer heat but sturdy enough to last for years. They also feature quality printings. For instance, the “The Jaw” shirt has raised feltesque graphics while those of “FIFA Heritage 1950 World Cup Brazil” shirt has an eye-catching rayon/high shine and plastisol print sure to stand out at your local pub.

Hoodies and track jackets are made of either quality polyester or polyester blends and feature classic-style embroidery. We really liked the fact that their featured lovely old school zippers with metallic slider heads and back printings reminiscent of the 1970s.

Fit
We tried on size Large FIFA Collections shirts and hoodies. Upon doing so, we found their fit to be near perfect for shirt models who usually wear size large. Thus, we all agree that the FIFA Collections shirts and hoodies are true to size while meeting today’s tighter fitting styles for men. At the same time, they still maintain a sporty and all-important soccer look.

FIFA Collections Spring Summer 10 will be available in FIFA Official Stores®, online at www.FIFA.com/fifacollections and www.FIFA.com/store, and across an extensive network of FIFA branded retail spaces in markets worldwide from February 2010 onwards.
