Review: FIFA Collections Heritage Tees

The governing body of world soccer, FIFA, continues to  diversify its brand and celebrate the heritage of its World Cups with the global launch of a new limited edition ‘FIFA Heritage Tees’ range for Autumn/Winter ’10 that relives 100 years of football history in art form. These beautiful t-shirts celebrate previous FIFA World Cupâ„¢ tournaments by featuring the original tournament logos, iconic posters and mascots.

Among the iconic art posters are France 1938, Sweden 1958, Argentina 1978 and Mexico 1986. Highlights include the Mexico 1986 tee which displays official logo from the 1986 FIFA World Cupâ„¢ exhibiting true 80’s style, and on trend this season. The Italia 1990 tee, features the world famous Stadio Olimpico which hosted the FIFA World Cupâ„¢ final between West Germany and Argentina. The Chile 1962 ‘Heritage Tee’ celebrates the FIFA World Cupâ„¢ returning to the continent of South America after 12 years by showcasing the official logo from this tournament.

We’ve had a chance to have an in-person look at the Mexico 1986 and Italia 1990 tees. We found them to truly capture the look of tee shirts of their times while incorporating modern clothing technology. For example, while a tee shirt produced for the 1986 or 1990 World Cup with have been made of the heavier coarser cotton blends of the time, the FIFA Heritage Tees utilize the much more comfortable premium lightweight cotton blends of today. Both also feature modern slim fits as opposed to the oversized looks of the late 1980s.

Because of the classic logo used for the Mexico 1986 tee and the late 1980s design used for the Italia 1990 tee, each carries a definitely retro appearance. Someone unversed in the trends of the past could easily mistake each for a vintage item unearthed in an estate sale or attic somewhere. If you want to show off your love for soccer while rocking the always popular retro chic look then either should work fine for you. We think these are must-haves for hitting warm spots during the Christmas holidays.
