A Look at the USMNT 2024 Home and Away Kits

For sports fans, uniforms are an age-old topic of conversation. Soccer, in particular, has a rich history of unique and beautiful kits, from the iconic and quirky 1986 Denmark kits to the classic Argentinian blue and white stripes. The United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) is not exempt from this history, showcasing its iconic red, white, and blue in various ways. This article examines USMNT kit history and the leaked designs for their home and away uniforms.

A Quick History of USMNT Kits

Historically, USMNT kits have included prominent stripes with the occasional star design. Stripe-based kits are an ode to the famous stars and stripes of the American flag. In 1994, fans got a beautiful star-based design in an area marked by bold full-print designs across all professional sports in the United States. However, most US teams have either striped-based or minimalist themes. Aside from the 1996 match against Mexico when the USMNT wore a baby blue variation, the United States has almost universally worn red, white, royal blue, and navy blue. In recent years, the squad has moved away from the bold looks of the 1990s and learned about simple designs with strong accents. The 2018 and 2019 kits featured monochromatic color schemes with stripes on the road, while a white kit with red and blue stripes was used at home.

The USMNT’s success in each uniform has varied. Superstition is common among fans, but it is often as simple as fans favoring the kit with the most success tied to it. Entering 2024, the United States has an active schedule, which will only get more busy over the next two years as the World Cup approaches. Currently, the USMNT is at +2500 to win the World Cup, the 10th best odds. Fans can follow an online sportsbook like BetMGM to keep track of the squad’s odds throughout 2024 as we approach World Cup qualifying.

The USMNT’s participation in the CONCACAF Nations League and Copa America will likely impact those odds. A successful run at both should improve their odds and could propel them into the top eight. For the more superstitious fans, here is what they might be wearing.

New Home Kits: A Classic Revitalized

Footy Headlines released exclusive images of the potential 2024 kits with various placement options. The USMNT will again have their kits provided by Nike, an active partnership since 1995. The United States has gone with all-white kits at home since 2013, with slight variations, including last season’s unique paint-splattered design. That trend will continue into 2024 with arguably the most uncomplicated design yet. Similar to the 2000 home kits, these uniforms feature the Nike logo on the right chest and the USMNT crest on the left. The collar is the creative mark of the uniform, featuring a solid blue on the left side and the famous red and white stripes on the left side. The designers used a similar design on the sleeve cuffs as well.

However, there are still some questions regarding this design. Initial images didn’t include a uniform number on the front. Footy Headlines also provided mockups of the uniform, including a number under the Nike logo and a more prominent, centered logo. A number will likely appear, as the USMNT has historically had numbers on the front of their kits.

New Road Kits: An Ode to an Iconic Kit

Footy Headlines also released images of the potential 2024 away kits to be worn at Copa America and the Olympics. The uniform utilizes old royal and sport red, an ode to the 2012–13 “Waldo” kit. This road kit resembles the 2017 “Reverse Waldo” kit, a spinoff of the beloved 2012–13 kits, utilizing horizontal red and blue stripes. This variation is unique, including opaque stars within the blue stripes and white stars lining up down the shoulders.

The USMNT’s recent road kits have featured electric blue and red color combinations, a trend continuing into this next season. Like the home kit, fans can expect a number somewhere on the front, whether under the Nike logo or a more prominent, centered number.

When Will the USMNT Wear These Uniforms?

The release of the road kits has already been tentatively scheduled for Copa America and the Olympics, and both kits should be available for purchase by March or April of this year. The current squad, led by Christian Pulisic, has already played an international friendly, losing 1–0 to Slovenia in a disappointing loss. However, fans are excited to see the new kits. As a more intensive schedule lies ahead, fans can expect to see new kits with the ability to purchase. There will also be heavy expectations entering the season. With the World Cup on their home turf just two years away, the USMNT needs a strong season to prepare. Whether that means reaching the Copa America Final or winning the CONCACAF Nations League for a third consecutive time, fans will have plenty of opportunities to see the new kits.
