Premier League have deals with various prestigious kit manufacturers including Adidas and Nike. The home and away kits receive regular exposure on the pitch, although the third kits are often reserved for rare occasions.
Third-choice strips are often extravagant or ‘out of the box’. Their key requirement is uniqueness, as they are a backup plan for when a team’s home and away kit clash with the opposition’s home kit when they are on the road.
We are well into the 2023/24 season, and some of these kits have spontaneously graced the pitch on occasions already. But which are the best third kits that have been released across all of the Premier League clubs this year?
Liverpool’s third kit for the 2023/24 season is a rare purple which is not often seen in any kits across the league.
It will mostly be seen in Liverpool’s UEFA Europa League run, although it could make a few appearances in a potential title charge for the Reds.
Jurgen Klopp’s team started the season well in the first 12 games prior to the November international break. In English Premier League betting they are now seen as the most likely team to potentially steal Manchester City’s crown at 9/2 outsiders to win the title.
The third strip could well be a fine kit to don in a title-winning season if circumstances permit it. Any team that has red and white in their home strip will force Liverpool into wearing the aesthetic masterclass that is the 2023/24 third kit.
Aston Villa qualified for the UEFA Europa Conference League by finishing in seventh place in the Premier League last year. This season a stunning third kit was a necessity as a result, and Castore have delivered one that is quite impressive.
The company made headlines at the start of the season, with the kits they supplied the club suffering with a rare issue of retaining water during periods of rain. However, the designs should not be criticised, especially in the case of the Midlands club’s third strip.
The kit features a camo print which is made up of several different shades of blue. Perhaps the kit could be written into club history if they are to go all the way in Europe this campaign.
Their Premier League form has also been impressive this season, and their league finish could well force Castore into designing them a unique third kit design for the second year in a row in 2024.
Not all Premier League clubs that do not play in Europe release a third kit. However, Crystal Palace has one of an immensely clean but attractive aesthetic this season. The glossy black primary colour of the shirt is complemented by a fitting blue and red collar lining which represent the club colours.

Palace’s kit maker Macron has done a stunning job of topping the third strips that were designed by their heavyweight sportswear contenders.
Third kits are often received with mixed reviews from Premier League fans. The Liverpool and Villa kits here will perhaps not please everyone, but Castore has created a calm third design for Palace that should be received well by all of their opponents who happen to face them this season.
