Up-Close: The Umbro Diamond Icons 2011 Collection

Released earlier in 2011, the Umbro Diamond Icons Collection (now available at World Soccer Shop and Umbro.com) has been a staple among soccer clothing lovers this year. We recently had a chance to take an in-depth look at one of the latest ranges from the iconic UK-based footie gear manufacturers. Here’s what we found.

Umbro Diamond Taped Ringer T-Shirt
Arguably the statement product of the range, the Umbro Diamond Taped Ringer T-Shirt is inspired by the running diamond taping football shirt classics of the 1970s. The modern interpretation of such legendary kits is crafted from a heavyweight cotton fabric, with ribbed cuffs and collar and a cut and sew insert on the chest for a comfortable retro fit.

The woven taping running along the arms and the inside of the back neck makes it stand out when worn anywhere from the pitch to the pub.

The Umbro Diamond Icons Taped Track Jacket is another 1970s classic rebooted. Almost identical in look to the trackies that you may have seen legends like Pele, Johan Cruyff and Franz Beckenbauer, the 2011 version from Umbro adds taping featuring Umbro’s famed diamonds for a modern soccer touch.

The tonal track jacket features a double knit fabric with an outer layer that keeps the wearer warm by protecting you from the elements with a comfortable cotton inner. It fits true to size with a modern slim fit that will complement a soccer player’s physique.

Umbro Diamond Icons Hooded Graphic Track Jacket
Ideal for wear any casual attire is allowed, the Umbro Diamond Icons Hooded Graphic Track puts a modern spin on the classic running diamond design. It features raglan sleeve construction offering improved fit and a circular rib cut detail on the hood and Umbro’s diamond taping on the sleeves.

It is highlighted by a subtle print that appears to work the iconic Umbro diamond into a Union Jack pattern. As seen in some of our pictures, the grey version has well done neon yellow accents that make it standout anywhere.

Good looks aside, this lightweight jacket is ideal for soccer training, running or any other outdoor activity in mild temperatures.

The ultra-lightweight Umbro Diamond Icons Rain Pullover will keep you dry during a training session or run in light rain without slowing you down. It is also not loose fitting so you won’t have to worry about opponents being able to readily pull at the jacket during wet weather scrimmages. At the same time, The Diamond Icos Rain Pullover will have you looking good with a unique color combination highlighted by light blue sleeve diamond taping and red neck and pouch zippers, inner neck taping and drawstring.

Umbro Logo T-Shirt
Umbro goes beyond the ordinary with their logo t-shirt. Despite it being easy just to stamp your well-known logo on a tee, Umbro’s designers make matter interesting with textured taping on both shoulders and on the inner neck area. Coupled with a robust rounded neckline that won’t stretch easily and a very comfortable cotton/polyester blend, it is ideal for any warm location from the gym to the beach to the soccer field into the Spring of 2012.
