Video: Thierry Henry Joins the New York Red Bulls

France international striker Thierry Henry has signed for the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer from Spanish La Liga champions FC Barcelona on a “multi-year” deal.

Henry previously played for Italian Serie A side Juventus and English Premier League club Arsenal. While at the latter, Henry became the club’s all-time goalscoring leader and was part of the team that went a record 49 games without a loss in the Premier League from 2002 to 2004.

Henry joins England’s David Beckham and former Swedish international Freddie Ljungberg among MLS’ designated players. Such individuals are paid salaries that are not counted against MLS’ league-mandated team salary caps.

Henry is expected to make his first Red Bulls appearance in a friendly with English Premier League side and Arsenal arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur on July 22nd at Red Bull Arena.
