Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama, usually known as Vasco da Gama or simply Vasco, is a Brazilian multisports club from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil that was founded on August 21, 1898.
Vasco is best known for its soccer team which now campaigns in the Brazilian Série A after being promoted from Série B at the end of the 2009/10 season. The four-time Série A champions and 1998 Copa Libertadores winners finished last season’s campaign in 2nd place. The club also won last year’s Copa do Brasil and earned a spot in the 2012 Copa Libertadores as a result.
Vasco da Gama unveiled its 2012 third kit on Thursday morning at its club shop, Gigante da Colina, in São Januário and will be the club’s first choice uniform during its upcoming Copa Libertadores run. Players Felipe, Bernardo, Fernando Prass, Alessandro and soccer babes Kyssia Cataldo and Camila Carvalho were on hand to model the new jersey.
The new kit carries the brands of sportswear company Penalty and clothing brand Cavalera. The latter was founded by guitarist Max Cavalera of metal bands Sepultura and Soulfly. The Vasco 2012 third jersey does not carry the club’s famed diagonal sash but instead features an enlarged Portuguese Ordem Militar de Cristo cross.
Vasco da Gama kicks off its 2012 Copa Libertadores campaign against Uruguay’s Nacional on February 8th at the Estádio São Januário.
