Manchester United eliminated 10-man Manchester City from the English FA Cup on Sunday with a 3-2 Third Round win over their local rivals at the Etihad Stadium.

Wayne Rooney gave United the lead in the 10th when he beat two City defenders to head the ball past backup goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon.

The course of the match was possibly changed when City captain Vincent Kompany was contentiously red carded in the 12th for a two-footed challenge on Nani.

Danny Welbeck doubled Manchester United’s lead in the 30th while Rooney completed his brace by heading in the rebound of his saved penalty kick in the 40th. City had the better of the second half and notched goals from Aleksandar Kolarov in the 48th and Kun Aguero in the 65th but were unable to complete the comeback.
