Coupled with second-placed Real Madrid’s 3-0 win at bottom club Xerez on Saturday, the result means that Barca’s lead at the top of the table is down to two points.

Former Arsenal man Jose Antonio Reyes set up Uruguayan Diego Forlan for Atletico’s first in the 9th minute. Simao Sabrosa’s magnificent free kick in the 23rd doubled the host’s lead before Zlatan Ibrahimovic pulled a goal back Barcelona in the 27th with a close-range volley.
