Sao Caetano had taken a 22nd minute lead with a Marcelo Batatais header. However, Andre Santos notched the equaliser with a long-range shot in the 35th minute.

In the 51st minute, Ronaldo swept the ball home with a first-time shot from Dentinho’s low cross for the game winner.

The former Barcelona, PSV Eindhoven, AC Milan and Inter Milan player was substituted in the 78th minute to a standing ovation from the 30,000 crowd at the Pacaembu.
