Corinthians fans will see their team debuting its 23/24 Nike third kit for the first time on Friday night, when they face Botafogo in Brazilian Serie A action. The kit, designed by Nike, pays tribute to the Diretas Já movement, a campaign for direct presidential elections in Brazil that took place in the 1980s.
The Corinthians 2023/24 Nike third kit features a bright yellow hue inspired by the color that was worn by players, artists and journalists who participated in a massive rally at the Vale do Anhangabaú in São Paulo on April 16, 1984. The date and location of the event are printed on the inside of the collar, along with the Nike logo and the Corinthians badge, both in black with red accents.
The shirt honors the legacy of Democracia Corinthiana (Corinthian Democracy), a period of social and political activism by Corinthians players such as Socrates and Wladimir, who challenged Brazil’s military dictatorship and advocated for democracy and human rights.
“There’s no way to tell the history of Corinthians without remembering the iconic strength of Democracia Corinthiana. With this shirt, we pay another beautiful tribute to that team that marked an era and helped influence a crucial issue for the country,” says Duílio Monteiro Alves, president of Corinthians.
