We’re kicking off an end of year series on some of Umbro’s latest kits with a detailed, in-person look at the Everton Football Club 2016/17 home jersey. It is now on sale at World Soccer Shop, Kitbag, Subside Sports, Lovell Soccer and UK Soccer Shop.
Well-received and selling well among Toffees fans, the Everton FC 16/17 home shirt returns to the timeless crewneck look of the kits worn by the club during the 1960s and early 1970s. The period was one of the most successful in the team’s history with the Merseysiders adding trophies for the 1962/63 and 1969/70 First Division (now the Premier League) and 1966 FA Cup to their silverware collection. Hence the affection for the design by Everton supporters worldwide.
The stunning Everton 2016/17 Umbro home jersey is in the club’s traditional and unchanging blue with a white, ribbed rounded collar and matching sleeve cuffs. Everton’s often used away yellow appears on its inside neckline and outside cuffs via lining and a flash respectively. The embroidered Umbro diamond on the right breast, screen printed Umbro logos on the sleeves and shirt sponsor logo are all white.
Although all of the above makes for a great kit Umbro has made it even better and of significance by celebrating Everton’s iconic Goodison Park through it. One of world’s oldest purpose-built football grounds, “The Grand Old Lady” was built in 1892 for the then fledgling side and has served as its home since.
The geographic coordinates of Goodison Park are printed on the inside neckline of the shirt in white. The criss-cross architectural signature of Bullens Road Stand designer, Archibald Leitch, appears above the coordinates. The entire back and lower front of the jersey along with its side panels and front shoulders also feature an embossed design that is also reminiscent of Leitch’s trademarked pattern. These areas are also ventilated for airflow and cooling.
Fit and Feel
The Everton FC 2016/17 home kit is relatively slim-fitting. If you’ve got an athletic physique then it will let you show off the results of your hard work in the gym and in training. Consider going a size up if you’ve got a few extra pounds hanging around.
The new EFC jersey feels great on the skin from the time it is first slipped on. It is extremely lightweight and provides great cooling when worn in hotter conditions or during physical activity. This is a match grade kit that is suitable for use in high level competition. From what we can tell it is the same as that worn by Everton on Premier League match days.
Like most of Umbro’s current kits for its sponsored clubs. The Everton 2016/17 home shirt uses a bespoke design that is not worn by any other team. This is a welcome departure from the use of the same templates for countless teams by other outfitters of the football world. Coupled with its classic look that harkens back to past glory and its ties to Goodison, the 16/17 Everton FC home kit is a fantastic addition to the repertoires of football shirt collectors and Toffees fans alike.
