Flamengo is one of the most soccer popular clubs in Brazil with an estimated 35 million supporters and placed 9th in the FIFA Clubs of the 20th Century ranking. Flamengo claimed its sixth Campeonato Brasileiro Série A championship in 2009 but could only manage a 4th place league finish in the 2011 season.
The club has been in the international spotlight in recent times after signing former FIFA World Player of the Year midfielder Ronaldinho. The one-time FC Barcelona and AC Milan man has since regained his form and has been recalled to the Brazil national team on several occasions over the last year.
On Tuesday, the Flamengo Olympikus 2012 home and away kits were presented to the public. The new kits will be Flamengo’s Centenary strips and recognize the 100th anniversary of the club’s first match with the text “Centenário do Futebol 1912-2012” (Footall Centenary 1912-2012) on their inner necklines.
Current players Vagner Love, Renato Abreu, Felipe and Paulo Victor were on hand for the kit presentation along with a couple of Brazilian soccer babes in Carnaval costumes. The Flamengo Olympikus 2012 training and leisure ranges were launched in conjunction with the new playing uniforms.
