Midfielder Carli Lloyd scored a hat trick to lead the United States Women’s National Soccer Team to a 4-0 win over Mexico in both teams’ final group stage match of the CONCACAF qualifiers for the London 2012 Olympics.
Lloyd opened the scoring in the 7th with a header past Mexico goalkeeper Cecilia Santiago. Heather O’Reilly doubled the lead one minute later when she slotted in Amy Rodriguez’s well-placed pass. Lloyd completed the scoring in the 57th and 86th minutes with another header and a tap in.
The USA now meets Costa Rica in the semi-finals of the qualification tournament currently taking place in Vancouver, Canada. The winner earns a spot in this summer’s Olympics.
