Video: Japan 3 – Qatar 2 (AFC Asian Cup 2011 Highlights)

Man of the match Shinji Kagawa scored two goals and assisted on another as 10-man Japan defeated hosts Qatar 3-2 in the quarter-finals of the AFC Asian Cup 2011 on Friday.

Qatar surprisingly went ahead in the 12th minute on Sebastian Suria’s goal before Borussia Dortmund midfielder Kagawa equalized in the 28th following a period of Japanese pressure. Qatar went ahead again in the 63rd on a Fabio Cesar goal-mouth effort following the sending-off of Japan’s Maya Yoshida in the 61st.

Kagawa led the comeback for the outmanned but still dominant Blue Samurai with a goal in the 70th and a pass that set up Masakiko Inoha’s game-winner in the 89th.

Japan will now face the winner of tomorrow’s meeting between Iran and South Korea in the tournament semi-final on January 25th.
