Video: Extended Post-Match Brawl at the CFU Club Championship

The second stage of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) 2010 Championship is currently underway in Trinidad and Tobago. The top three clubs in the tournament qualify for much sought after spots in next year’s CONCACAF Champions League.

Matters took a turn for the worse this weekend when a Group D decider between local boys San Juan Jabloteh (coached by former England international Terry Fenwick) and Club Atlético River Plate Puerto Rico of the  Puerto Rico Soccer League was followed by an extended post-match brawl. The latter is affiliated with River Plate of Argentina and features a roster of mainly Argentine players.

Reports of the match indicate that it was full of incident as four players were red carded – River Plate’s Maximiliano Vallejo, Raúl Ruiz (78th) and Jorge Gonzales (85th), and Jabloteh’s Cyrano Glen (75th minute).

Following the match, several altercations between River Plate’s and Jabloteh’s players occurred. The video below also shows the guests engaging in high-speed chases of a couple of Jabloteh’s players, towel-fanning one of their players, tussling with security and pelting Jabloteh’s fans with unidentified objects.

We’re not too sure what to make of this.

San Juan Jabloteh won the game 1-0 and have advanced to the final round of the CFU Club Championship. River Plate Puerto Rico were eliminated and have lauched a formal protest to CONCACAF Vice President Jack Warner over their experience in Trinidad.
