[digg=http://digg.com/soccer/Bayern_Munich_1_Lyon_0_UEFA_Champions_League_Highlights]Hosts Bayern Munich narrowly defeated Olympique Lyon 1-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final series at the Alliaz Arena earlier today.
FC Bayern were dominant for much of the match despite losing influential midfielder Franck Ribéry to a straight red card for a foul on Lisandro in the 37th minute. Ribery’s fellow French international Jeremy Toulalan was also ejected in the 54th upon receiving a second yellow.
Arjen Robben scored Bayern’s winner in the 69th minute on a swerving, speculative effort from 25 meters out that wrong-footed Lyon goalie Hugo Lloris.
The teams will meet again next week Tuesday at the Stade de Gerland with the winner on aggregate goals advancing to next month’s final in Madrid against either FC Barcelona or Inter Milan.
