Safee Sali scored a brace while substitute Ashari Samsudin added an another goal during 12-minute second-half spell to lead Malaysia to a 3-0 win over favored Indonesia in the first leg of the AFF Suzuki Cup final on Sunday.

The second leg of Southeast Asia’s foremost national team competition takes place in Jakarta on Wednesday. Neither team has ever won the biennial AFF tournament (formerly known as the Tiger Cup and ASEAN Cup) since it started in 1996. This year marks Malaysia’s second appearance in the competition’s final and Indonesia’s fourth.
