Video: WPS 2010 Season Kickoff Promo

Arguably the foremost women’s soccer league in the world, Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) kicks off its sophomore season this weekend. A slew of national team players from women’s soccer powerhouses like the USA, Canada, Brazil and England will be in action as Natasha Kai and Sky Blue FC seek to defend their 2009 league championship.

According to the league’s website:

WPS completed its inaugural season in August 2009 as Sky Blue FC of New Jersey became the first-ever WPS Champions. In 2010, eight teams will each play 24-game schedules from April 10-September 12 including six original WPS teams — Boston Breakers, Chicago Red Stars, FC Gold Pride (Bay Area), Saint Louis Athletica, Sky Blue FC (NJ/NY) and Washington Freedom — and two expansion teams Atlanta Beat and Philadelphia Independence. The top four finishers in the regular season will qualify for the 2010 WPS Playoffs scheduled for September 19-26.

Here are a few promo images and a video from WPS’ 2010 kickoff campaign. Included in the video is FIFA 2009 Women’s Player of the Year Marta. It remains to be seen which WPS team she will suit up for this year following the unfortunate folding of her 2009 team, the LA Sol.
