Video: Ronaldo and Benzema Debut. Real Madrid 1 – Shamrock Rovers 0 (Pre-season Friendly Highlights)

Subject to jeers from the locals, Cristiano Ronaldo made his Real Madrid debut last night following his transfer from Manchester United for a record £80m ($132m) against Irish part-timers Shamrock Rovers.

The venue for the match was the half-built Tallaght Stadium on the outskirts of Dublin. Nevertheless, 10,000 fans each paid £50 to attend what was arguable the biggest club match in their area for some time.

Sporting their new 2009/10 Umbro away kits, the hosts were able to withstand Real Madrid’s attacking forays for 87 minutes before substitute Karim Benzema spared Los Blancos’ blushes with his first goal for the club.
