Fiji will meet hosts England in the opening match of the 2015 Rugby World Cup on Friday at Twickenham. The defending Pacific Nations Cup champions will wear their black RWC 2015 BLK away kit against the white clad English. They will revert to their home white when they face Australia on September 23rd. Both jerseys are now available for sale at World Rugby Shop, Kitbag Rugby and Lovell Rugby.
According to BLK: Using the traditional base colour of white, the new Fiji RWC2015 home jersey features unique Fijian tapa motifs in the side panels with subtle trims of black on the collar, sleeves and hem. This jersey also features a traditional and unique embossed breast plate at the centre front of the garment.
The breastplate or civavonovono as it is known in Fiji was worn proudly as a symbol of high status during ceremonies and in times of war. It’s a motif the Fijians will wear with pride as they battle the world best in the United Kingdom.
The alternate kit that the Flying Fijians will wear at the 2015 Rugby World Cup is a predominately black jersey with a distinct Gradient fade featuring the same embossed breastplate design as the home jersey.
The move away from a traditional sky blue Alternate jersey and the introduction of black has resulted in a striking, bold and intimidating jersey while the side panel tapa motif flows through, ensuring the garment proudly represents Fijian Culture.
