The Best of Football Fashion 2014
2014 was quite a year in the world of football and football gear. The 2014 World Cup saw a host of innovative new product launches that made it one of the most eventful years in kit and boot history. As we prepare for action in 2015 that includes the ongoing European seasons, Africa Cup of Nations, Asian Cup, Copa America and CONCACAF Gold Cup, here’s a look back at Football Fashion’s favorite products of 2014.
Germany 2014 World Cup Champions adidas Jersey
The champions of Brazil 2014 had a stellar home kit heading into the World Cup. It was made even better by the addition of a fourth world championship star above its crest and the FIFA World Cup Champions badge. The jersey ended up being one of adidas’ best-selling products of 2014 and certainly a collector’s item.
Still lighting up the Premier League and beyond on the feet of Cesc Fabregas and Yaya Toure amongst others (Mario Balotelli’s woes are widely known), the PUMA evoPOWER 1 brings a barefoot feel to the highest levels of The Beautiful Game. Technology rich, lightweight and incredibly responsive, the evoPOWER was a football boot game changer in 2014.
USA 2014 World Cup Nike Home Jersey
The USA looked good during their exciting run out of the Group of Death and into the Round of 16 in Brazil donning their very clean looking 2014/15 home kit. The authentic version has all of Nike’s latest kit technology including laser cut side panels and a ventilated back. Its slim fit lets you show off your hard-earned physique while the polo collar-centric design lets you even sneak it in as business casual office attire.
A tank of a footie boot made of a high tech upper, the UX-1 is an all-purpose on the pitch football machine. Immaculate touch, low weight and fantastic protection puts the UX-1 among the best of the best for 2014.
EA Sports FIFA 2015 – Ultimate Team Edition
Highly addictive, immersive and simply the best soccer video game on the planet, EA Sports have outdone themselves with FIFA 15. Add in Ultimate Team with its infinite permutations of players and you can sharpen you managerial and gaming skills in your quest for offline and online football domination.
Beats by Dre Powerbeats2 Wireless Headphones
Beats by Dre entered the soccer scene with their riveting ‘The Game Before The Game’ video featuring superstars such as Neymar, Robin van Persie and Thierry Henry. The running and gym friendly Beats by Dre Powerbeats2 wireless headphones worn by Cesc Fabregas, LeBron James and Serena Williams followed. Lightweight with great sound quality, an appealing look and 6-hours of nonstop playback per charge, the Powerbeats2 will have your heart pounding during your off the pitch training activity of choice.
Italy 2014 World Cup PUMA Home Jersey
One of PUMA’s statement products at the World Cup, the Italy 2014/15 home jersey is the first ever football kit that has built-in athletic taping to support players’ muscles. Top that off with a compression fit and minimalistic polo collar and you’ve got a kit of the year candidate whose World Cup run ended too soon thanks to the Azzurri’s disappointing group stage exit in Brazil (who would have predicted Costa Rica to win the group?).
adidas Nitrocharge 1.0 Soccer Boot – Samba Pack Edition
adidas captured the Brazilian spirit with the Samba Pack edition of their versatile Nitrocharge 1.0 soccer boot. Brazil and FC Barcelona wingback Dani Alves proudly rocked them en route to the Seleção’s best FIFA World Cup finish since their last title in 2002 (semi-final 7-1 loss to Germany aside).
An excellent option for pounding the pavement for match fitness, the Reebok ZJet supports your feet with a sole made up of a series of air pods. It has great stability, cushioning and overall support and looks absolutely stunning in any setting.
Hurley Phantom 2014 World Cup National Team Boardshorts
Nike subsidiary Hurley made the summer of many a soccer fan with their much sought after Phantom 2014 World Cup National Team Boardshorts.
They came in the form of boardshort interpretations of the Brazil, France and USA (all Nike sponsored teams) home and away kits using Hurley’s latest and greatest surfer-inspired fabric technology. As such, you could show your team and / or soccer pride while on the beach during the summer that was.
Sierra Leone 2014/15 AMS Away Kit
Our sentimental favorite of 2014 is the Sierra Leone 2014/15 away kit from Australian-based newcomers AMS. Although the Leone Stars did not make the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, they represented their Ebola-stricken nation admirably and in a positive light while often wearing this jersey that is proudly highlighted with West African designs.
