[FRIDAY 30 MAY, 2014] Warrior Football has delivered another statement of intent to its global strategy by announcing the brand will become the official kit supplier of two-time European champions FC Porto. Effective from July 2014, the deal will see Warrior design the FC Porto home, away and third kits, as well as training apparel.
Pinto da Costa, President of FC Porto, said: “FC Porto always aims to work with great brands and this partnership is proof of that. Warrior is a renowned brand and personifies, even in its name, FC Porto’s warrior spirit. Warrior will be a strategic partner on the triumphs we want to continue achieving.”
Founded in 1893, FC Porto is a club built on success. No other Portuguese club can match their impressive list of honours and the ‘Dragões’ (Dragons) have achieved a clean sweep of every major competition in Europe, a feat very few teams have managed. During the 2012/13 season, Porto blew away their rivals as they became the second team in the history of the Primeira Liga to twice complete an entire 30 game season unbeaten.
Richard Wright, General Manager of Warrior Football, said: “We are extremely pleased to announce this partnership with one of the biggest clubs in world football. FC Porto will spearhead our entry into the Portuguese market and this deal marks a major leap forward in the global reach of Warrior Football. They are a club who regularly compete on the world’s biggest stage, the Champions League; and their ambitions to build on their successes make them a great match for Warrior.”
FC Porto joins Liverpool FC, Sevilla FC and Stoke City FC on Warrior’s roster of teams. Since launching in football in 2012, the brand has established strong relationships with high profile global clubs and players; Fernando Reges, Vincent Kompany, Marouane Fellaini and Kolo Toure amongst those promoting the Warrior brand and products.
The FC Porto 2014/15 Warrior home kit (now available at World Soccer Shop, Subside Sports, Kitbag and UK Soccer Shop) features 11 subtle sublimation lines that score the bold blue stripes, representing the 11 players on the pitch. These divide the blue stripes in 12, representing the 12th player, FC Porto’s supporters. Contrast orange piping to the shoulder seams completes the fluid modern look of the shirt which is fitted with a two-tone mesh for added ventilation. Embroidered onto the back neck are the words ‘FC Porto’.
