Coventry City Football Club is currently in the midst of its best season in some time as it sits in third place in the EFL Championship.
The one-time Premier League regular is outfitted by Danish sportswear firm hummel for the 2021/22 season.
The Coventry City FC 21/22 hummel kits incorporate influences from the club’s 138-year history into bespoke designs in home sky blue and away pink and navy blue.
According to Coventry City: The home shirt shows the Phoenix prominently on the chest, rising from flames at the bottom of the shirt. The Phoenix is a famous symbol of Coventry, representing New Coventry reborn out of the ashes of the old, and added to the City’s Coat of Arms in 1959.
The shirt also features a classic round collar, harking back to the style used in the 1960s.
Again, the famous Hummel chevrons feature prominently on the sleeves while distinctive touches include CCFC slogans and branding:
– ‘Sky Blues’ on the rear of the shirt
– The words ‘While We Sing Together’ in the inside of the shirt
– Sky Blue and Navy Blue Two Tone pattern on the sleeves – replicating a style used in the 1996/97 home kit
This year’s pink and blue halves away kit has again taken inspiration from the past, harking back to a kit worn in 1889 by Singers FC – designed at the time to mirror the corporate colours of the company which the Football Club took its name from before becoming Coventry City.
The history of the colours is acknowledged as part of the design too, with reference to Singers FC inside the waist hem and the year it was worn on the neck tape – plus the words ‘While We Sing Together’ inside the neck too.
