Superliga Argentina side Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata and technical partner le coq sportif have released a special edition kit celebrating the 59th birthday of team manager Diego Maradona.
Called the DM59 jersey, the shirt is a faithful reproduction of the dark blue le coq sportif alternate kit worn by Maradona when he led Argentina to the FIFA World Cup 1986 title.
The jersey is remembered by many since it was worn during La Albiceleste’s memorable 2-1 quarter-final win over England in one of Maradona’s finest international performances.
Fifty-nine numbered versions of the kit have been made by le coq sportif. Each has unique details of Maradona’s life and career printed in white on their fronts. Maradona’s name and number are printed on the backs in a typeface identical to that used on the Argentina 1986 away shirt.
Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata will adopt a version of the kit featuring their commercial sponsors as their 2019/20 third shirt.
