US Soccer and Nike today revealed the home jersey that will be worn by the United States national women’s soccer team at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The new kit will be used exclusively at the Olympics and will be available in men’s and women’s versions at World Soccer Shop.
The USA 2016 Rio Olympics home shirt features Nike’s new AeroSwift design that the sportswear giant is using for all of its sponsored national team kits during the 2016/17 international football calendar. It is predominantly in the traditional home white of the USA with platinum colored sleeves. Metallic threads are incorporated into the sleeves to give them an iridescent gleam.
Ventilated stripes run along each side of the jersey. The left side stripe is blue while the one on the right is red. They continue onto the accompanying white shorts. Socks that form a gradient that morphs from white to blue as they approach the foot complete the new uniform.
The US Soccer crest is replaced with a stylized blue “USA” print on the left breast of the jersey in keeping with Olympic regulations. “USA” is also printed in blue on the outside of the shirt’s back collar.
Defending FIFA Women’s World Cup champions and gold medal winner in the last three Olympic Games, the USA is pooled with France, New Zealand and Colombia in the group stage of the Rio 2016 soccer tournament.
