adidas and the Federación Colombiana de Fútbol (FCF) have unveiled a white Colombia 2016 Copa América Centenario home kit. This special edition jersey will be worn solely during this summer’s tournament and will replace the yellow 2015/16 Cafeteros (The Coffee Makers) primary kit only for the competition.
The Colombia men’s national football team will debut the new kit on June 3rd when it meets host USA in the Copa America’s opening match at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA. It will be available at at World Soccer Shop, Kitbag, UK Soccer Shop and Subside Sports along with the team’s current home and away shirts.
The white color of the jersey is a tribute to the first ever national football team that represented Colombia in an international competition. The event in question was the 1945 Copa América held in Chile. The team wore a white shirt for the occasion and throughout the rest of the 1940s before switching to dark blue, orange and finally yellow.
The Colombia 2016 Copa América Centenario home kit uses a bespoke design featuring a v-neck collar that adidas says is inspired by the football shirts of the 1940s. It has sleeve cuffs int he red of the Colombian national flag along with dark blue adidas striping on its flanks. Tonal stripes run along its front and back.
The text “UNIDOS POR UN PAIS” (United for a Country) is printed on the jersey’s upper back in the yellow, navy blue and red of the flag. The special edition Colombia uniform is completed by blue shorts and red socks to showcase an “exclusive, stylish and modern design”.
Lightweight, player issue adizero version of the shirt will be on sale in limited quantities. They will be packaged in collector’s boxes.
