Nike has unveiled the home and away kits that will be worn by reigning South American champions Chile during the Copa América Centenario tournament in the USA this summer.
La Roja (The Red) will also wear the new uniforms during their 2016/17 international friendlies and World Cup qualifiers. Both jerseys will be on sale at World Soccer Shop, Subside Sports, Lovell Soccer, UK Soccer Shop and Kitbag on March 24.
Nike says thaat the vivid Chile red of the team’s 2016 Copa América home kit pays tribute to team’s nickname, “La Roja,” while the white away kit honors to the country’s spectacular snow-capped Andes mountain range.
The sides of the kits feature striking blue stripes that run the length of the shirt and short. Expanding when the player is in motion, they maximize ventilation and reveal bold flashes of underlying white. Blue socks highlight the most dynamic part of the footballer’s body, the lower legs, to accentuate speed.
“There is even more pressure this year to bring brilliance to the pitch and replicate what we did in Chile,” affirms Alexis Sánchez (Arsenal FC), Chilean National Team forward. “All I can say is: We are prepared and have the pride of the nation on our backs.”
The home kit sees Chile depart from their usual blue shorts for the first time in recent memory. It will be debuted on the pitch on Thursday when La Roja hosts Lionel Messi and Argentina in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification match.
Sánchez and the likes of Arturo Vidal (Bayern Munich) , Claudio Bravo (FC Barcelona) and Gary Medel (Inter Milan) will wear their 2016/16 Nike away kit for the first time when they travel to Venezuela on March 29.
