Kawasaki Frontale became the first Japanese J. League Division 1 club to unveil a 2016 uniform this week when they launched their 20th Anniversary kit for next season.
Furnished by Frontale technical partner PUMA Japan, the team’s 2016 home jersey celebrate club’s founding in 1996. As such, its design is based on the primary kit worn by club during its inaugural season as Kawasaki Frontale in 1997.
The blue and black stripes used on the Frontale 1997 and 2016 home shirts inspired by those on the home jerseys of Brazilian Campeonato Brasileiro Série A club Gremio. The two teams have had a close partnership since Kawasaki Frontale’s inception.
A specially designed 20th Anniversary crest is printed on the right sleeve of the kit along with J. League and Kawasaki patches. It space-themed shield reads “CHALLENGE THE FUTURE. 20TH. SINCE 1997”.
The first non-domestic club of Brazilian international striker Hulk, Kawasaki Frontale are currently in fifth place int he J. League D1 table after thirteen matches played.
