Norwich City Football Club have followed the release of their latest home kit with that of their 2014/15 Errea away shirt.
The new shirt will be available at Subside Sports and and UK Soccer Shop in the lead up to The Canaries return to the English Football League Championship following a three year run in the Premier League.
According to the club’s website: The Norwich first-team squad will wear the away kit for the first time when they take on La Liga side Celta Vigo in a friendly at Carrow Road on Friday 1 August.
City’s head of retail, Steve Balmer-Walters, says the shirt’s look has been influenced by historic Canary kit colours – if not designs – as well as current trends and a desire to take a thematic cue from the look of the home kit.
“It leads itself on from the home shirt, in terms of the three-quarters shirt design.
“We wanted to go with black for the shirt, but the plum really lifts it. It’s a really on-trend colour, a colour that’s actually visible across the whole fashion range in the Canaries Store right now. And it’s a colour that works really well to make the Norwich City badge jump out.
“It’s all about that badge when the players and supporters are travelling away from home. We wanted a design that would emphasise the Canary on all our chests.”
The new away shirt design is quite unlike anything in City’s history. Similar colour shades have been used before in the 1970s, 1990s and 2000’s, but never in a similar design.
Another unique feature of both the home and away shirts for 2014-15 is the hidden ‘On The Ball, City’ motif, printed onto the inside on the back of the shirt.
‘On The Ball, City’ is the most venerable football song in world football, but it’s very particular to City fans. It’s personal. We wanted to reflect that in this year’s shirts.
“I hope everyone enjoys wearing them as much as I’ve enjoyed being involved in bringing them about.”
