Nike released the USA 2014 World Cup away jersey (available now at World Soccer Shop and Kitbag) last week with a campaign that included celebrities and athletes from several different sports posing in the new red, white and blue shirt. Included in the mix were musical sisters HAIM, Indianapolis quarterback Andrew Luck and Olympic gold medalist Allyson Felix.
A United States team made up of mainly MLS-based players went on to debut the new kit in an entertaining 2-2 draw against border rivals Mexico in Glendale, Arizona on Wednesday night.
Still on pre-order at many retailers, the USA 2014 World Cup jersey comes in a fancentric replica version and a state of the art authentic or player issue version. This is Football Fashion’s World Exclusive up-close look at the new United States national soccer team authentic alternate shirt. Click on any of our images to see even greater detail.
A few of notes about the 2014/15 USA Nike away kit:
- This is shirt that is identical to those issued to the world class athletes who represent the USA men’s and women’s soccer teams. As such, it is form-fitting and intended to support athletes on the pitch movement. There is no room to hide anything unwanted (i.e. flab) in it. If you’re packing a little something extra then stick to the replica shirt.
- Among Nike’s latest generation of football shirts, the USA 14/15 away kit is one of the lightest in the firm’s history. Made completely of recycled plastic bottles, it features strategically placed, laser cut side ventilation to ensure airflow to athletes’ torsos in order to enhance cooling. Moisture dissipation is also aided via the use of Nike’s new burnout mesh fabric on the back of the jersey.
- As you can tell from our pictures, the packaging of the new kit is something to behold. Certainly a collector’s item in of itself, the kit box uses Nike’s new “Risk Everything” campaign launched for the World Cup. Specific to the USA World Cup jersey, the box even includes the names of the Stars and Stripes group stage opponents for Brasil 2014.
- Loud and in your face via its colorway, the USA 2014 road shirt has drawn the ire of some of the team’s fan because it is reminiscent to a popular popsicle. However, we think that this is a case of a shirt looking better in real life than in professionally taken pictures. The Clint Dempsey, Landon Donovan and the rest of the USA men’s team looked great in it on Wednesday night. Our detailed look gives up an unprecedented look at a jersey that Team USA will wear at the 2014 men’s and Under-20 women’s FIFA World Cups and possible at the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
