Australia ousted defending champions South Africa from the 2011 Rugby World Cup with a hard-fought 11-9 quarter-final win over the Springboks in Wellington, New Zealand on Sunday. The result sets up a semi-final clash with neighbors New Zealand on October 15th.
Winger James O’Connor won the game for the Wallabies with a decisive penalty in the 72nd minute, while team captain James Horwill scored only try of the match in the 12th minute.
Fly-half Morne Steyn had two penalties and a drop-goal for all of South Africa’s points on the night.
