The Federación Peruana de Futbol recently signed a kit deal with Umbro that will see the Peru national football team donning the UK-based sportswear firm’s uniforms for Copa America 2011 and for the South American qualification round of World Cup 2014. Shortly thereafter, the Peru 2011 Umbro home and away jerseys were launched.
The mainly red kit doesn’t feature Peru’s customary sash and is patterned after the team’s 1970 World Cup away shirt. The 1970 jersey was worn for Peru’s comeback 3-2 win over Bulgaria in the first round of the tournament. La Blanquirroja (the Red and White) went on to make the quarter-finals of the 1970 World Cup before falling to 4-2 to eventual champions Brazil.
