If you are a fan of Olympique de Marseille, you probably remember the historic night of May 26, 1993, when the club became the first and only French team to win the UEFA Champions League. That night, in Munich, Basile Boli scored the only goal of the game against AC Milan with a powerful header. The final whistle sparked an explosion of joy among the players, the staff and the thousands of supporters who had made the trip to Germany.
Now, 30 years later, PUMA and Olympique de Marseille want to honor that notable achievement with a new limited edition 2023 jersey that celebrates the legacy of the champions of Europe. Called the “Celebration” kit, the shirt is a tribute to the golden star that shines above the club’s crest, a symbol of pride and glory for all Marseille fans.
The mainly white jersey features a modern and refined design that blends the current era with the 90s. The light blue color is inspired by the sky of Marseille, while the golden star radiates a blue beam that covers the entire jersey. The star also represents the unity and diversity of the city, which has always supported its team with passion and loyalty.
The Olympique Marseille 2023 PUMA “Celebration” jersey will be worn only once by the club on May 27, 2023, when it hosts Brest for the 37th matchday of Ligue 1. This date is almost exactly 30 years after the historic victory in Munich, and it will be a special occasion for the fans to relive the emotions of that unforgettable night.
PUMA has also chosen to produce this jersey locally, in partnership with Fil Rouge, a clothing manufacturer based in Marseille since 2014. This is a way to support the local economy and to show respect for the environment. Fil Rouge has already collaborated with PUMA last year to produce a collector’s kit entirely made in Marseille, which was worn by OM against Strasbourg on May 21, 2022.
