adidas Originals have reissued the Manchester United 1988/90 third kit as part of a new throwback collection celebrating the Premier League club’s exploits of the late 1980s.
adidas says that the jersey is a tribute to the past and a symbol of the present. It is based on the third kit that Manchester United wore for two seasons — 1988-89 and 1989-90 — when they were on the rise to become the dominant force in English football, culminating in an FA Cup triumph.
It is a very close recreation of the classic football shirt with a retro-vibed woven “MUFC” jacquard fabric and a crafted ribbed v-neck collar. Manchester United’s red and black appear as collar trim as it did on the original kit some thirty-five years ago.
