Nike Football and the KNVB today presented the Netherlands FIFA World Cup 2022 home and away kits. The new Oranje (Orange) jerseys will be worn by the Dutch men’s and women’s national teams over the next year.
The Netherlands 2022/23 Nike away shirt will be worn for the first time on September 22 in the UEFA Nations League match against Poland. The new home kit will make its debut during the September 25 UNL fixture against Belgium.
The new kits were well-received by the Netherlands players who participated in their launch photoshoot. Team captain Virgil van Dijk commented: “Every time I put on the shirt, I see it as an opportunity to achieve great things. Not just for myself and for the team, but especially for my country. It remains special to be able to do that as a captain.”
Midfielder Frenkie de Jon added that Orange stands for coming home in addition to football at the highest level. He said: “I see the Dutch national team as a reunion with friends. Orange is really our color. That is what makes us who we are as a national team.”
Nike took inspiration for the home shirt from the Total Football with which the Netherlands put itself on the map in the 1970s. The 22/23 primary jersey symbolizes the creativity, flexibility and the groundbreaking mentality with which the Netherlands has delivered successful football players as well as world-famous streetwear and fashion innovators.
The mane of the Dutch Lion is recreated in a modern pattern on the iconic Orange home shirt to represent the fluidity of the Total Football tactical system. The black details of the shirt represent the fighting spirit with which the team of national coach Louis van Gaal will come forward during their matches.
The Netherlands’ World Cup 2022 away shirt is inspired by Dutch culture and the country’s influential clothing brands that have left an important mark on soccer, streetwear and culture. The blue shirt sees the Dutch return to their usual alternate color after donning alternate black since 2020.
