The Deutscher Fußball-Bund and adidas today presented the Germany home and away jerseys for FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019.
The design of the new Germany home kit is reminiscent of a significant moment in the history of the Frauen-Nationalmannschaft as it is inspired by the shirt worn by the team when they woman the 1989 European championship. It title was their first.
The tournament gave the German women’s football a large public stage for the first time. Its reputation and acceptance increased significantly as the team went on to win eight European Championship and two World Cup titles. The European Championship semi-final in 1989 was the first German women’s national team match which was broadcast live on television.
“It was important to us to keep the DNA of the team and its history through the color and shape of the legendary flag graphics,” said Linn Sickert, designer at adidas Football. “At the same time, we have edited them with new, digital filters – and thus interpreted them in a modern way.”
The black-red-golden graphics became even more dynamic through the use of additional horizontal lines. The design concept was created by the adidas Football development team in several meetings with national players and focus groups.
“We wanted to make sure that the new jersey reflects the team’s values and is worn with pride by our athletes,” says Linn Sickert.
The timeless uniform is completed by black pants and white socks – a color combination that connects fans of all generations with the German national teams.
The Germany 2019 Women’s World Cup adidas away jersey of the DFB women is deep red with white details. A modern digital print appears on its front and back.
