New Balance Football has officially revealed the new Celtic Football Club home jersey for the 2017/18 season. The jersey has been unveiled as part of the ‘Live The Legend’ campaign, marking the club’s 50th anniversary year since their historic European victory in Lisbon. It will be available in Elite Player and replica versions at UK Soccer Shop, Kitbag, Subside Sports, Lovell Soccer and World Soccer Shop.
The kit pays tribute to the incredible achievements of the Lisbon Lions 50 years ago by featuring a special textured 50th anniversary gold crest; a unique feature of the New Balance Celtic FC kits for the 17/18 season.
The two teams who competed in the 1967 final have been commemorated in the inner back neck of the jersey, where the green and white hoops of Celtic and the black and blue stripes of F.C. Internazionale Milano are featured.
The new kit is inspired by the kit worn by the team who achieved the first European Cup victory of any British club, and returns the design to the classic green and white hoops, with gold crest, sponsor and NB branding.
Richard Wright, General Manager of New Balance Football said, “This is such a big anniversary for the club, and we wanted to create a kit which marked the historic victory of the team 50 years ago. The kit has a classic look, which is something Celtic is renowned for across the world, but it also incorporates the latest New Balance technology to help the players perform to the very highest level.”
Tested at Loughborough University’s world leading Sports Technology Institute, the kit features a unique combination of bonded vents and zonal mesh structures to provide advanced cooling and performance benefits. The kit incorporates moisture-activated laser cut vents in the under-arm regions that open in response to increased perspiration by the player.
The Celtic FC 2017/18 kit is completed by white shorts and white socks with a narrow gold trim. To offer added support to the ankle, the socks have built in comfort zones and the footbed has been developed with polypropylene to alleviate excess moisture when the foot makes contact with the boot.
The Bhoys new goalkeeper kit has been engineered in line with the outfield players’ jerseys, sporting a mock vent and back jacquard cage system to compliment the outfield kit aesthetic. The green design with black crest, sponsor and NB branding has a strong look, completed by the tonal three colour sleeve pattern.
Celtic FC Captain Scott Brown said, “This year is such a huge anniversary for the club and all our fans, it is great to see the home kit has been inspired by such an important event in our illustrious history. What the Lisbon Lions achieved 50 years ago was truly incredible and I know all the players will feel extremely proud to wear this shirt next season.”
