Argentina Rugby 1965 Tour 50th Anniversary Nike Jersey

Nike and the Union Argentina de Rugby have launched a special edition jersey celebrating the 50th anniversary of Los Pumas first ever tour.

The trip in question was to southern Africa and included stops across then Rhodesia and South Africa. During their journeys the Argentina rugby team were given their nickname of “Los Pumas” by a local journalist. They also recorded a landmark victory over the Junior Springboks.

The new Argentina kit will be worn for the only time in match action during a 2015 Rugby World Cup test against South Africa at El Estadio Vélez on August 8th.

Nike Argentina says that they have captured the essence and design of the 1965 Puma home jersey while adapting it to the modern game though the latest kit technology. The shirt has a definite retro feel and uses the sky blue and white hoops of Argentina’s rugby teams. Like the 1965 kit, it has long sleeves and an all white polo collar. The crest that celebrates the 50th anniversary of Los Pumas tour with an old school look and the year of the tour on it.
