Hosts Chile defeated Lionel Messi’s Argentina on penalties in the final of the 2015 Copa América tournament on Saturday to earn their first ever South American championship.
La Roja (The Red) wore a special 2015 Copa América Champions version of the 2014/15 PUMA home shirt during post-match celebrations that lasted throughout the night.
The jersey sees a golden star added above the Federación de Fútbol de Chile (Chile Football Federation) crest to recognize the only major soccer title won by a Chilean national team.
“FINALISTAS” (FINALISTS) is printed in white on the front of the kit and struck out in gold. The word refers to Chile’s losing Copa América final appearances in 1979 and 1987. “CAMPEONES” (CHAMPIONS) appears below the struck out text and is underlined in gold. A white star with “2015” within its borders is stamped below the text.
The Chile 2015 Copa América Champions shirt is expected to be the last La Roja kit from PUMA with a switch by the FCC to Nike imminent. It is expected to be on sale at UK Soccer Shop, World Soccer Shop, Subside Sports and Kitbag.
