The United States defeated Italy 1-0 in international friendly action in Genoa on Wednesday night. Clint Dempsey’s 55th minute goal saw the Americans triumph over the Italians for the first time ever after a ten match winless streak against the Azzuri dating back to 1934.

Though outshooting the USA nineteen to four on the night, Italy was repeatedly denied by the heroics of USA goalkeeper Tim Howard and his defence. The result sees Jurgen Klinsmann’s secure a fifth victory in 10 games as U.S. coach
