FC Barcelona eliminated arch-rivals Real Madrid from the 2011/12 Copa del Rey on Wednesday night with a 2-2 draw (4-3 on aggregate).
The Catalans appeared to have matters sealed after going ahead 2-0 (4-1 on aggregate) on goals from Pedro in the 43rd and Dani Alves in first half stoppage time. However, the current Spanish La Liga leaders stormed back with match-tying efforts from Cristiano Ronaldo in the 68th and Karim Benzema three minutes later. However, last years Copa del Rey winners could not find the decisive goal needed to avoid a quarter-final exit in this year’s competition.
