The Cameroon national soccer team is Africa’s most successful sides at the FIFA World Cup. Nicknamed Les Lions Indomptables (The Indomitable Lions) Cameroon has qualified for the FIFA World Cup six times — 1982, 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2010— and was the first African team to reach the quarter-finals of the competition (Italia 1990).
A continental power throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Cameroon has also won four Africa Cup of Nations titles with the last coming in 2002. However, even though the current Cameroon side is full of European-based talent such as Samuel Eto’o (Anzhi Makhachkala), Benoît Assou-Ekotto (Tottenham Hotspur) and Idriss Carlos Kameni (RCD Espanyol), it failed to qualify for the 2012 edition of the tournament.
Cameroon is grouped with Libya, Togo and Congo DR in African qualification Round 2 Group I with the group winner advancing the Round 3 of the qualification process.
