Frank Lampard’s close range header in the 49th minute gave England a 1-0 win over reigning European and World Cup champions Spain at Wembley Stadium in London on Saturday.

The team captain for the day in the absence of Chelsea teammate John Terry, Lampard nodded in the winner after Darren Bent’s header had rebounded of the post onto his path.

Spain went on to dominate possession and territory for much of the second half and were unlucky not to equalize off a David Villa effort that hit the post and a Cesc Fabregas shot that went just wide of the goal.

England will next host Sweden while Spain travels to Central America to meet Costa Rica in San Jose. Both matches will take place on November 15th.
