Mexico scored four unanswered goals to defeat the USA by a score of 4-2 in the final of the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup. El Tri’s sixth regional title sees the team qualify for the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.
The USA had gone up 2-0 with goals from Michael Bradley in the 8th and Landon Donovan in the 23rd minutes. However, Mexico rallied back on goals from Pablo Barrera (29th) and Andres Guardado (36th) to go into the halftime break with the score at 2-2. The comeback was completed with Barrera’s second in the 50th before Man of the Match Gio Dos Santos’ sublime chip made matters 4-2 in the 76th.
Mexico’s Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez finished the Gold Cup as leading goal scorer with seven in El Tri’s six matches.
