SL Benfica adidas 2011/12 Home Kit / Camisola

Thirty two-time Portuguese Primeira Liga champions SL Benfica (Sport Lisboa e Benfica) launched their adidas 2011/12 home kit on Wednesday evening at the club’s Sala dos Troféus da Eusébio Gold Exhibition. It is now available at World Soccer Shop.

The red Benfica 2011/12 adidas home jersey is inspired by that worn by the club when it defeated Real Madrid to win the 1961/62 European Champion Clubs’ Cup (the predecessor to the UEFA Champions League). The two golden stars featured on the kit’s badge are in recognition of Benfica’s back to back European Cup wins in the 1960/61 and 1961/62 seasons.

José Augusto, Ângelo Martins and Mário João of the 1961/62 Benfica team were on hand to unveil the new shirt along with current players Ruben Amorim, Javi García and Rúben Pinto.

Benfica finished the 2010/11 Portuguese Primeira Liga in second place and made it to the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League. The team will enter the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League in the Third Qualifying Round.
