Panama handed the United States’ its first ever group stage loss at the CONCACAF Gold Cup with a 2-1 upset of the favored hosts on Saturday in Tampa, FL. The win sees Panama through to the quarter-finals of the tournament with six points from two matches played.
Luis Tejada and Gabriel Gomez scored first-half goals for Panama in the 19th and 36th before Clarence Goodson’s header in the 66th put the USA back in the match.

The USA must now beat winless Guadeloupe in the final round of Group C matchs on Tuesday night in Kansas City to guarantee a spot in the quarters.
